Distillation Story__
On the solstice eve I had the pleasure of distilling something exquisite & rare— hand-picked creamy white tea blossoms alongside fresh & juicy green tea leaves. This was an idea a year+ in the making, ushered in by patience & timing to distill these two parts of the same plant together.

This feels like a wonderful way to greet the solstice; there’s abundance at every corner yet the things that speak your name will call for you to slow down & drop in.

These blossoms were hand-picked at the perfect moment to retain the most incredible eyes-roll-back kind of scent….Ive been thinking how I could best describe them for you and landed at a delicate warm & honeyed jasmine-like floral with a subtle background flush of green earth & a hint of squeezed citrus. It was an absolutely sensational sensory exploration for me and took me right back to a tea shop I visited in San Francisco 20 some years ago with my sister.

As I began this distillation, little yellow finches kept swooping by. Swallowtails dipped in & out as our kids played chase and the delicate scent of the bright & earthy blossoms & leaves filled the breezeway to our garden. Every distillation calls in its own wonder & scene and this one was purely peace & play.

Huge thank you’s to our friends at Urban Acre Farm for growing and selecting the best of the best. This was her one harvest of the year and I’m humbled to have the chance to make something beautiful out of something that is already exquisite on its own.

Physically : Green tea Hydrosol has a strong antioxidant profile and is a first choice for wise / mature skin. Because of its flavonoid profile and the tannins present, it has an affinity for the under-eye area, helping to decongest & de-puff dark circles. Green tea also contains natural compounds such as Triterpenic saponosides, that protect the skin, encourage moisture retention, improve tone, texture & collagen synthesis. All of these qualities make it a wonderful choice for expressions such as rosacea, eczema & psoriasis.

Emotionally : While some caffeine can pass into the Hydrosol through distilling, we feel this Hydrosol carries a more focused, calming and grounded alertness to it. The effects of smelling green tea have been shown in a handful of studies to increase cognition, memory & attention while easing anxiety. We are excited to hear how it speaks to you.

Best Use: Mist your Hydrosol onto clean face or hands until saturated, and pat for ample hydration. For added moisture morning and night, follow by gently massaging SunRoot Solar Serum or our Balm into the skin, and finish with another mist of your Hydrosol to lock in moisture. For under eyes, you may enjoy soaking our cotton rounds and placing on the under-eye area directly for 10-20 minutes.

WHAT IS A HYDROSOL?

Hydrosols, also known as Distillates, are the subtle, and often aromatic waters resulting from slowly distilled plant material, and are some of nature's best antioxidants for the skin. Lovingly made using hand collected local spring water, combined with ethically wildcrafted and organically grown plant material, they are distilled in a traditional copper alembic still.

Alchemists from all over the world have performed transformational distillations in these traditional stills for over 3,000 years, and this artisan process still remains the same! The actual method of performing our distillations has a 5-7 hour duration, a much slower process compared to more commercialized modes of skin care production. What results, is a nutrient-rich, energetic, and authentic Hydrosol, containing the plant's own suspended micro particles of essential oil, plant acids, even a plant's specific essence and memory imprint.
